Great winter boot for very reasonable cost

I can't remember ever having a pair of Wolverine boots before. But now I can make up for that omission. Just got these yesterday, put on my usual medium hiking socks, and they fit just purrrrfect. I am a 9 wide but I like to wear heavy socks for hiking and I ordered this in 9 1/2 extra wide. For a change, looks like I made the right size selection in the tricky business or ordering the right shoe size online without that vital in-store fitting.Took a photo to show how they look on me. These boots are safety toe protected with a "composite" box - you don't want steel in your shoe in winter. Anyway, some composite materials are stronger than steel in some uses (lighter, too). You can feel the thickness of the boot in many places because of the 1000 grams of insulation.Despite being an 8" boot, they didn't seem unexpectedly heavy to me. They have a VIBRAM sole - always a good sign of the quality of a boot. Right out of the box, they did not seem as stiff as some Italian-made hiking boots I've bought in the past. They take months to break in. These may be much easier to tame, I expect.I went for a three mile walk today and I can report they do very well for comfort and stability. I love to hike - it's great exercise in the outdoors. These will let me do that in comfort all winter. I'll be reporting on the waterproofness, too, no doubt. Might get to use with my snowshoes. The possibilities are endless.And I rated these boots a four just based on my initial assessment and wearing around the house. That may go up to a five when I return to update this review after some use of these Wolverine mens W03513 Novack 8" hunting boot.
