5Great robust boots
By Allan M. Lees
This is my third pair of Danner Pronghorn boots and I really appreciate the improvements that have been made over the first pair I bought - the scuff-proof heel and toe covers really help a lot. I use my boots for hiking in the mountains, because invariably I'm carrying a heavy pack (between 35kg and 45kg) plus stuff in various Molle-pouches. I do a lot of off-trail cross-graining so thick soles and plenty of ankle support is essential. I've crossed streams up to 15cm deep and the boots have remained dry inside; once you go deeper than this of course the water comes in over the top but no boot will remain dry inside under those conditions. The soles are medium-lasting - they wear out long before the uppers do. I've taken to nailing nylon/plastic heel protectors in order to minimize wear in this area and it extends the life of the boot by about 150 kilometers so long as I'm diligent about replacing them every 40k or so (or more often over rough terrain). My only complaint with these boots is that every pair of Danners I've ever bought (except for a pair of black uniform boots) requires a breaking-in period of up to 50k, during which serious rubbing around the heel will occur, even with additional inserts, thick socks, two layers of socks, etc. So basically I know now to break them in gradually by wearing them around the house and on short hikes during this period; after they are broken in I experience no rubbing at all, even over extended (50k and more) hikes in bad conditions.

5Still LOVE my Danner boots!!!
By Ron
I love my Danner boots. I asked a good friend of mine who was and still is an active outdoors person what kind of boots he wore and he said Danner boots are the only ones he will ever buy. He doesn't come from a very wealthy family so I was suprised at the price tag when I went to the store the first time. After tring them on and feeling how comfortable the boots were on my feet I am still wearing danner boots for 8 years now and I still think to myself when putting on my boots in the morning "gosh I love these boots". I usually put in 8 hr to 17 hr days at work. I am self employed and anybody that is self employed knows that your day doesn't end 'til you're done. My Danner boots have never let me down once. As far as water soaking though them, I have never experienced any water soaking though and some days I work with water running across floors and other fluids both which some times get ankle deep.I usually don't get cold feet so the 400 gram boots do just fine for me here in Minnesota even when it gets to -15 or -20 below zero. I also don't have to much of a problem in the summer time when it gets warm either only when it gets over 90 degrees. I've had red wings before and they would last about 9 - 12 months per pair, but with my Danner boots they usually last about 2 years and they have better traction than my old redwings.

It is hard to find a better boot then anything made by Danner. They perform wel, stable and feel much like a great running shoe rather than a boot. No break in time needed
