Great boot!

I am a huge Muck Boot fan (note - there are knock offs out there - I am talking about boots made by the Muck Boot Co and under the Muck Boot brand). We use these exclusively on my ranch in Montana and have purchased just about every make and model they have from the Muck Shoes all the way up to the cold weather arctic versions and everything in between.The neoprene uppers stay soft and are tough in the rough. They are easy on and off due to the soft uppers. I have a high arch and full length rubber boots are always very hard for me to get off. These boots, since the uppers fold down, are much easier to get off.They work fine over the pant or under the pant. The only time I have seen them break down is when my employees ride motorcycles out to change wheel line, etc. and they hook them on the foot pegs. This can tear the uppers, so they are not indestructible. The rubber bottoms are very well constructed. The steal toe versions of the boots provide good front foot protection. Size seems pretty standard, so if you are a men's 10, the 10 seems to fit true. A typical pair of boots will last years on the ranch and I have never seen one come apart in any place. The sole will wear out before the boot breaks down. Leaking has never been a problem.One note: The tack or scrub version of the boots has a sole that is not really made for great gripping on slick surfaces (at least that is my experience). They work fine in the barn, but if you are going to be doing a bunch of walking outdoors, over ice or slick mud, I recommend the "lug" soles.I have worn the arctic version of the boot in very cold weather (-10 F) and your feet will stay warm with a good sock. I would not use them to stand for long periods of time in very cold weather, as there are better boots made for that kind of performance. The non-arctic versions get worn all year around unless it's very cold.These boots are not cheap in price, but the last thing I want is wet, cold or sore feet or a boot that breaks down quickly. Muck Boots perform very well and will outlast cheaper brands by a long time.

Some good news, More bad news

I've had these boots for this entire winter season - About October to now - and have probably worn them 6 days out of 7. Sometimes for an hour in a day. Sometimes for 10 hours. I'm 5'10" 200# and live near Seattle - wet and muddy. I also have a home in snow country in Eastern, WA. I bought the 14" height because the 17" were difficult to get on and off.Good news: The boots are pretty comfortable. They are quite waterproof. Their cold weather performance is OK. Coldest I have worn them was +12F for a short period and my feet were OK. I've been in snow with other folks who had leather hiking boots and complained of cold feet and I was fine. But there is no way I would expect them to keep my feet warm at 20 below or colder.Bad News: On a wet hard surface the soles are like ice skates. I have a friend who has a cultured stone deck. It has a lot of texture to it. Shortly after I got the boots I walked out on her deck in the rain and in 1/2 sec was on my back. I've been in same place in same weather with other boots with no problem. Same thing walking into a store with a cement floor - if your feet are wet - be VERY careful. You can slide the full length of your pickup bed in the rain in a heartbeat. Caution!The big lugs may be great for traction (or may not) but they do have a tendency to get stuck on the brake and gas pedal and the edge of your tailgate when you jump off. Real Exciting! After 7 months these lugs are worn down by 60-70%. The boots will probably last another season but no more. The rubber part of the shank is separating from the fabric part and the inner liner is worn through in a few spots.Also the lack of straps, laces, etc that makes for easy on and off also makes for no adjust-ability and minimal support. Your feet move around a lot in these on rough terrain. I've twisted my ankle a few times where it would not have happened in lace up or strap boots. Probably should have expected that.But despite the negatives they are pretty good boots. And that's the real problem. I can buy a pair of "pretty good" boots for less than 30% of what I paid for these. They was WAAAYYYYY overpriced.THIS IS AN UPDATE to my previous review. This is now my third season for these boots so I've worn them a lot. I just fell down a flight of wet wooden stairs wrenching my back and spraining my wrist and that prompted this update. With a lot of miles on them I continue to say that the boots are waterproof, adequately warm - although not at -40 I'm sure - and durability has been OK. But I've NEVER worn boots so treacherous in my life. On anything wet and smoothish you might as well be wearing roller-skates. I've probably fallen down HARD 8 times in the past 3 years wearing these things vs. Zero wearing anything else. And I'm absolutely NOT a clumsy type person. I don't know if it's the lug design or the coefficient of friction of the sole material but you are down so quick you don't even know it's happening till it's over. My GF is now threatening to cut them into pieces and throw then away before I end up in the hospital. I think I'm gonna have to agree. Either that of just DO NOT wear them when it's wet -- which ain't easy in Seattle in winter..............Too bad - I like them otherwise.

These are amazing. My father has sclaraderma, which means when his body temp lowers the blodd vessels dont go to this finger tips and toes. He is a construction worker at the WTC site so when its cold, its bitter cold in the pit.Anyone who needs cold weather boots, buy these!
