3Nice boots
By R. L. Crowder
The boots are very comfortable around the feet and calves. In fact they are the most comfortable shoe/boots I think I have ever placed my feet in.One problem, they killed my ankles. The fabric is supper tough and not flexible around the ankles. I've worn them hunting for over 12 miles now and they have not broken in around the ankles. I actually had a fall because the fabric would not let my ankles bend enough going down hill. I will wear them some more and and see if they break in. On flat ground they are great. In mountain/rocky areas the are tough on the ankles and can cause safety concerns.Traction is great!By the way, they are very waterproof!!!! It was in a rain forest, and boy did they hold up. Rained the entire time. Everything was wet but my feet! The next day I could not wear them due to how sore my ankles were and I ended up having to wear a pair of high end hunting rain boots. Since my feet couldn't breath they were drenched from sweat at the end of the day. So for water proof these boots are great.Once they break in, I might change my review, but I cant see giving them a real high rating due to how hard they are on the ankles...

3Long break in period
By Rob
Here is how I use these boots. I walk my dog at least 6 days a week on the same trail and the walk is 2 miles. It's flat to slightly hilly - nothing extreme. I'm 64 and in great health so I'm doing a relatively brisk walk but nothing extreme (i.e. at 64 jogging=extreme). Like other reviewers I initially experienced a lot of discomfort around the ankles. This went away after a couple weeks but it was followed by tightness across the top of the boot about where the toes meet the foot. Then the right foot was good (I'm left foot dominant) and the left foot persisted for weeks following - nothing excruciating but enough to make me focus on it. It's been 6 weeks and now when I first put the left boot on it still feels uncomfortable but then it loosens up. I don't know if that's because the paths are muddy and I don't clean the boots after each walk. I bought a pair of boots from a competitor before these (these were intended to be backups but now I want them "broken in") and experienced none of these symptoms and the competitor boots were $80 cheaper. On the positive side these have the "lugs" for the laces that you can just slide the laces under and not have to thread them thru eye holes. The competitors did not have them but I had the existing threaded type lacing replaced at a shoemaker by the ones that you can just slip the lace under (cost=$12 so I'm still >$65 cheaper than these). Would I buy these again? I don't think so. I would buy them again if they didn't require the extended break in period. These don't have side zippers which I strongly recommend that you avoid. They would seem to be convenient but I also sent back a pair of boots with a zipper because the zipper snagged and broke the second time I wore them. That's not entirely surprising. Zippers are not nearly as fault tolerant as a shoe lace.

2Stiff around the ankles
By ww2
This boot is extremely stiff around the ankles; I read a couple of reviews that indicated this was an issue. I even tried putting wader straps around my ankles to keep the boot from rubbing the hide off my ankle; that did not work. I would say that this boot would never break in around the ankle area.
